From Russian Cop to Persian Gulf:
Mikhail’s Epic Overland Drive to Iran Overland travel to a new country with your own vehicle is always filled with excitement, adventure, and uncertainty.

For many international overlanders, campervan travelers, and adventure seekers planning a road trip to Iran, questions around the Carnet de Passages, customs bureaucracy, and safety often create doubts.
Today, we want to share the true story of Mikhail, a retired Russian police officer who decided to break free from his past travel limitations, get behind the wheel, and embark on an epic overland road trip from Russia all the way to the Persian Gulf!
How It All Began:
A Chat with AI in Armenia For years, Mikhail’s career as a police officer in Russia restricted his international travel. After retirement, he seized the opportunity to realize a lifelong dream: driving his own car from Russia through Armenia and down to the Persian Gulf.
While waiting in Armenia for his Iranian visa, Mikhail was searching for a reliable way to enter Iran with his car without a Carnet de Passages. Interestingly, he decided to ask an AI chatbot for recommendations! The AI connected him with Iran Tourism Center, giving him our direct WhatsApp contact.
What started as an official inquiry quickly transformed into a genuine friendship.
Entering Iran via Nordooz Border:
Hassle-Free Customs Clearance Navigating border formalities and securing a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for Iran without a Carnet de Passages can be intimidating for foreign drivers. This is where the local expertise of Iran Tourism Center made all the difference.
Our official border representative met Mikhail directly at the Nordooz border (Armenia–Iran border crossing). We handled all customs paperwork, transit documentation, and vehicle clearance seamlessly, allowing Mikhail to enter Iran smooth and stress-free.

Tehran Stopover:
Pizza & Honest Chat in Darband with Ahmad Janati After driving through the scenic roads of Tabriz, Mikhail reached Tehran. Here, Ahmad Janati (founder of Iran Tourism Center) along with our Russian-speaking translator met up with him.
They headed to Darband, a popular mountainous retreat in northern Tehran, to enjoy traditional Iranian hospitality and pizza while discussing Mikhail’s road trip experience.
In an exclusive video interview, Mikhail debunked common myths about traveling to Iran:
“Throughout my 1,000+ kilometer drive across Iran, complete strangers showed me incredible kindness. People offered me food and drinks, bought internet data for my phone, and warmly invited me to visit local mosques. Everything the media says about Iran being dangerous is completely fake propaganda.”

Driving South:
From Isfahan and Shiraz to Bandar Abbas Mikhail’s journey continued south into the heart of Persian culture and history. He explored the magnificent architecture of Isfahan, passed through historic Shiraz, and finally reached the port city of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf.
At the port, our southern representative, Arash, was waiting to coordinate the vehicle export and customs clearance to ship Mikhail’s car via ferry to Dubai.
Unexpected Turn:
When We Became More Than Just an Agency Mikhail’s car was successfully loaded onto the cargo ship to Dubai, and he was scheduled to take an international flight the same evening. However, unexpected military tensions suddenly escalated in the region, leading to the cancellation of all international flights!
Mikhail found himself stranded in a coastal city in a foreign country—without his car and without a flight home.
He was never alone!
Arash, our Bandar Abbas representative, stayed by Mikhail’s side for two full days. He arranged accommodation, managed all logistics, and ensured Mikhail felt safe, comfortable, and cared for until his rescheduled flight safely departed two days later.
